EDGEWORTH

LOCATION:  “Edgeworth”, in Fauquier County, Virginia, is approximately 2 miles north of Orlean and 10 miles from Marshall and Route 66.  Dulles International Airport is to the east and within 45 minutes drive.

THE PROPERTY: Edgeworth is a wonderful offering of an elegant manor house, numerous dependencies, farm buildings, and 91 fenced acres.

MAIN HOUSE: The Main House is composed of many different periods of time making it an interesting and unique architectural story.  As you approach the house you see the c.1850 Federal style stucco façade with a later addition of a two story columned porch.  When entering the house you are greeted by a beautiful reception hall with 12 foot high ceilings, marble floors, original woodwork and the main stairs leading to the second floor. To the right is a gracious dinning room and to the left is the formal living room; both with marble surround wood burning fireplaces, original wood floors and woodwork. These rooms are large, airy and graceful with wonderful Monticello windows spanning from floor to ceiling and opening to the front porch.  To the left of the living room a 1980s addition contains a small hall leading to a large master bedroom with a new bathroom.

On the second floor in this section of the house there is another generous master bedroom with a wall of built in closets, fireplace and new bathroom.  An inviting library is also on this level with the original fireplace and beautiful old floors.

To the rear of the reception hall you enter into a hyphen section connecting the grand front of the house to the earlier charming log section and a later 1900s stucco addition. This lovely transition section was built in c1828 as a more formal sitting room for the log house and presently is used as a reading room.  From here you enter today’s kitchen with an island, granite counters and cherry cabinets.  The kitchen has a large informal dinning area, added in the 1900s, with twin bay windows looking over the pool, gardens, pasture and stables.  A half bath, back staircase and enclosed sun porch are also in this area.  The kitchen flows into the original house of log construction c1769, now a cozy family room with fireplace.  Considering the date this two story building was spacious in its day.  On the second floor above the 1828 section is a hall leading to a bedroom, a linen closet, access to the attic of the log section and entrance to the log section from the second floor.  In the log section is a guest bedroom with fireplace, sitting room with fireplace, full bath and back stairs returning to the kitchen area.  Below on the lower level, a kitchen/laundry combo room, storage room with outside entrance and a room with all the updated mechanics of the house.  An attached two car garage was added in the 1980s.

THE GUEST COTTAGE:  Originally the summer cook house, the two bedroom one and a half bath stone and cedar guest house, has its own kitchen with dining area and huge original cooking fireplace.  A sitting room, laundry/mud room and study make this a truly independent haven for guests.

THE COTTAGE:  Another charming house also in pristine condition is this three bedroom stucco cottage with kitchen, living room, sun porch, mud room/ laundry, and three fireplaces.

POOL AND POOL HOUSE:  Beautiful gunite gas heated pool with ozonated system, and spa.  Pool House has a kitchenette, bath and changing room.

BARN: A 6 stall stable with shed row, hay loft, tack room and feed room.

Six Bay Garage.

Numerous farm buildings.

THE LAND: Surrounding the house and grounds are lovely English Gardens with established perennials blooming from early spring to late summer. Majestic trees dot the gardens and landscape.  Huge box woods edge and delineate areas around the house.

The 91 acre farm is comprised of fenced rolling pasture and woods.  Private, beautiful uninterrupted views make this an ideal quiet country retreat or family compound.

This property is not in Conservation Easement, and this potential tax benefit awaits the next owner.
